$15 passive antenna > $35 amplified antenna September 4, 2010 Q. Nguyen (Madison, WI) I first bought the Philips SDV2940/27 UHF Digital and Analog Indoor/Outdoor TV Antennaand thought that since it was "flat" and could be wall mounted indoor and outdoor and also based on the reveiws here on amazon, that I'd give it a shot. Simply put, it didn't do anything better than any passive antenna. Yes it was "flat" and yes it was amplified, but I couldn't tell by the reception. And I truly think "amplified" antennas are bogus because you have to provide energy in order for them to work....nice one. After the thorough disappointment, we went to Wally-world to see if there were any other flat, wall-mountable antennas we could get. We ended up getting this RCA antenna which is TRULY flat. Ever play the game paper mario where in one dimension you see shape, but when you turn to, the shapes turn into flat pieces of paper? This is just that. The picture is somewhat decieving because they show you the face of the antenna. However, if you turn it, it is indeed as thin as a piece of cardstock.
*Some assembly required* Assembly might be better off for a person that's inclined to play with legos because it sure is a wacky set-up. I hope you've practiced on your model airplanes because you'll have to be delicate when lining up the three wings inside the oddly designed base. Once you get it all together though, it looks like you have a piece of artwork from Cybertron. It can also double as a mustache for you or your TV.
Anyway now on to important stuff...reception. Like I mentioned above, the other antenna was an amplified antenna, which gives the antenna a boost so that it can pull in weak signals...and like I said above, bogus. I could not get any signal or any more channels with that antenna. And when I tried to unplug it to see if it made a difference, it made the reception even worse than any passive antenna. FAIL.
When we installed this antenna, we really weren't expecting much. It's flimsy, it's inexpensive, it might not work. Well, I guessed wrong. This works MUCH better than the above antenna, it's passive so there isn't a constant energy drain AND (drumroll please) it cost $20 less than the other one! Also, it sits nicely on my wall mount behind my TV so there is not ugly antenna floating aroung and no wires to hide. In my book, Cybertron artwork > Phillips engineering.
Works great for fm August 24, 2010 B. Withers (Florence, Oregon) Since fm falls within the tv fm band, I decided to try this directional antenna on my Yamaha fm receiver. I wanted to see if it performed better than the supplied whip antenna. Since it is a directional, and all the fm stations are close to being in one direction from home, it did far better; its a keeper.

I live about 37 miles from the city. I have a 30 year old set of rabbit ears that I've been using and I (amazingly) get about 85% of the channels in our area using the rabbit ears and an amplifier. I figured that surely now they make better antennas then they did back then so I tried this one. First of all I should mention that the box had a diagram that rates the antenna on reception capabilities and this antenna is only rated at about mid range capability. I think it was rated "good"...when "exceptional" is best...which makes it about a 3/5. That being said, that's about the quality of results I got. I didn't receive as many channels as I do with the $5 rabbit ears (maybe 40% of them)...even after moving the antenna around to every location possible and trying it with an amplifier. This antenna has an interesting look and would be easy to mount behind a tv, but if you live more than 20 miles away from the tv towers or have any kind of interferance in your area, there's a pretty good chance it won't do much for you.
worst antenna ever July 11, 2010 Zitas human This is the most worthless product I have ever bought!!! I get better reception with old style rabbit ears. I can't wait to get to a shooting range and give this product the proper send-off it so deserves. Do not waste your money.
No More Cable Bills July 9, 2010 Clairetta Anderson (Mounds View, MN.) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I already have one of these antennas so I knew it pulls signals really well with our digital converter box. So I ordered this for my husband. Before, he was always complaining about not being able to get certain channels and choppy reception. Since he got this one, he no longer complains and is very happy he can get all the channels in now.
Due to it's flat design, it isn't so obvious wherever it is stationed. You can hang it on your wall or set it on something. Mine is on the other rabbit ear antenna that is on the top of our entertainment center.
There are times when we have choppy reception on some channels, but that is because of the towers positioning or weather. Although, even in the worst thunderstorms, I still have had excellent reception.
I, highly, recommend this antenna for you who want decent TV reception at a very reasonable price.
